How I started my online journey…first let me refresh my memory about how I get in touch with online business…
Around 2009 after I got marriage, the hype about “DOT COM” had been lingered for a few years, and I dreamed of riding the dot com wave and became an online entrepreneur.
I learnt bit and piece of online business knowledge here and there from different forums and websites. I learnt that I needed to have a domain and hosted it somewhere, but I was still not sure how could I earn money online.
Worked for others day by day and time flied, I still hadn’t truly put much time to research about online business seriously. My mindset was still believing online business was for someone who was more technical, they had the knowledge of how to build a website and do the design. For me, I was not that technically savvy, I just knew basic Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, those basic office document processing software. Building a website was still a far-away hope for me.
In 2011, I was not fulfilled in doing my job as a Regional Assistant Brand Manager. I would like to leave my comfort zone and start having my own wholesale business. I needed to have my own website to show on my business card. That’s what my digital journey began…
I started to learn buying a domain from Godaddy, hosted my website in a web-hosting company, and learnt basic WordPress. I managed to do a basic website with my limited knowledge.
My brother was having his affiliate business and seems it worked very well for him. I started to research what affiliate business was about. I tried Shareashare, Commission Junction, Clickbank etc. I said I “tried”, because I was not all in, I just tried this and that and never really kept doing it continuously.
I built a website and put those affiliate links there, but I did not know how to draw traffic. I knew it related to something called SEO (search engine optimization), but it was too technical for me. I put some posts there and hope for having organic search and helped the online business, but it didn’t work out. I still miss the core knowledge of how to market online.
Fast forward to 2018, I had my two kids already. My business was failed (because I stopped doing it, you’ll never fail if you keep on doing it. You’re just not yet successful) and I back to work three times for my ex-boss and quit again.
Several months during these period while I was a stay-at-home mom, I was depressed. Although I would love to take care of my kids, the responsibility of earning money to support the family kept ringing in my head. I wanted to contribute to the society as well. Being a full-time mom, I needed to take care of my kids 24-7, they were my priority and I had no time to entertain myself. I felt lost and I wanted to get a balanced life.
I dedicated to be a home entrepreneur and taking care of them at the same time. The dream of being an online entrepreneur came back and I opened the door of getting more online marketing knowledge.
In 2018 my husband’s health started to deteriorate, and my business was stuck without actual sales coming in. I started to explore different business opportunities: skincare wholesale business, online fashion business, amazon selling and even drop shopping business.
It was overwhelming and I was too stressed at that time as I needed to take care of two kids, do my business, research about how to get my husband a better health, and learn how to earn money for the family. I can say I was DESPERATE.
I visited my ex-company and looked for ways to do business with them, I faced REJECTION. I felt even more depressed and knew that having good relationship didn’t guarantee a business sales. I looked for building a business that I LOVE rather than chasing the next opportunity which made me exhausted.
I prayed for having a business that I love to do, at the same time I can stay with my kids and earn a lot of money. While browsing through YouTube, I came across an ad about an ex-lawyer in Singapore, how he started his online business and got out of the 9-5 rat race. His story was inspiring and I felt like it could be the online marketing education that I was looking for.
I clicked on his ad and it diverted me to his landing page. I entered my name and email address and watched the video series he sent me. I joined SFM as an Essential Member immediately.
I went through the SFM Module and joined the SFM member facebook page. SFM members asked questions about their online business and other members responded quickly to help out. Students shared their success stories, ups and downs, all the challenges and obstacles while they were conquering through their online journey.
I was moved by their love & support and the comprehensive Module content. I felt that it was the place where I could gain enough knowledge to start my online business. Whenever I faced obstacles, community members and SFM mentors were there for me. I WAS NOT ALONE! HOORAY!
I gave up my other business portfolio and all in to SFM. I joined the Elite+, then upgraded to Black. I knew I can fast track my success by leveraging the guidance and support from the SFM mentors. Many of the mentors are students in SFM which they grew and earned a very decent income in SFM over the years. They contributed their knowledge and experience back to the SFM community and we grew altogether. They were all REAL success stories of SFM!
I joined my referral Tim, the ex-Singapore lawyer’s webinar weekly. I sent email to him if I was not sure how to proceed and raised questions and mastermind with other team members in the weekly webinar hangout.
I also had the privilege of joining many webinars hosted six days weekly in SFM, I could ask questions live and meet with those mentors online. Besides, there was tons of training I could get in the SFM training library.
In November 2018 I joined the SFM’s Brand Incubator workshop and Momentum Day held in Goldcoast, Australia. I met face to face with the mentors and was trained by them. It was an awesome experience that I would never forget.
I made friends during the workshop and we formed a messenger group to support each other like a family. We called ourselves the Triple C family, as we found we have the value of connection, courage and compassion. True friendship was built and they supported me a lot while my dad passed away one month after I back to Hong Kong from the workshop. They are still for me whenever I need support. Thanks God that SFM gives me more than I expected.
I have gone through five Modules of training, and now having my website and I learn about using Aweber in managing my email series. I still have a lot to learn, but I believe that I can manage doing it and I can ask for help anytime. What I need is the COMMITMENT in keep doing it, when will I succeed is just a matter of time.
If I quit, then I fail. If I have the CONSISTENCY in doing it, I will succeed. Some people got their first sales faster and others slower, it’s all about how much TIME and EFFORT you have put into the business. Like any business, there’s no guarantee of success. But with the blueprint provided by SFM, all those training, a helpful community, and guidance from mentors, my chance of success is definitely much higher!
